Woman attacked near police road-block

Police have revealed another attack took place on an estate in Kent while they were in the area investigating the rape of a 10-year-old girl.

As officers were questioning motorists on Thursday about the rape on an estate in Ashford, a woman was grabbed from behind in the same area.

The two attacks are not being linked, but the description of the man in the latest attack matches that from an earlier incident on 5 November.

The attack on Thursday night came exactly a week after the 10-year-old was snatched from a youth club on the Stanhope Estate and later raped.

Spot checks on motorists were carried out by police investigating the rape, between 1800 and 2200 GMT.

New leads

The latest attempted assault of a woman took place in Newenden Close, just before the police operation ended.

She gave police a description that matched details provided by a 14-year-old girl who was attacked on Guy Fawkes Night.

Officers said they had received a number of new leads on the rape from the "road-block" and these were being followed up on Friday.

The rapist is understood to have been lying in wait for his victim for hours.

He grabbed the 10-year-old from outside The Shuttle Club, before taking her to nearby wooded wasteland.

The attacker was aged between 25-30, and was 5ft 6ins tall with short brown hair.

He was wearing blue jeans, a blue top, smelt of alcohol and had stubble on his chin.

A police spokeswoman said: "He is thought to know the area because of where he took the girl to waste ground behind Speldhurst Flats.

"He was definitely outside the club which makes us think he had been watching."
