Escaped prisoners recaptured
Three prisoners
Matthew Dare, Paul Vanderver and Robert Walker
Police have recaptured three prisoners who escaped from Peterborough Crown Court after overpowering custody officers and locking them in a cell.

Matthew Dare, 21 and Robert Walker, 22, were arrested in Romsey, Hampshire on Monday afternoon.

The third man, Paul Vanderver, 22, was arrested in Waterlooville, Hampshire just after 0400 BST on Monday.

Two of the security officers, who all worked for Group 4, received hospital treatment. A female guard needed five stitches to her head.

The three prisoners are expected to be taken to Peterborough Crown Court on Tuesday.

Vanderver and Walker are due to be sentenced after earlier pleading guilty to charges including robbery and burglary and Dare is facing a burglary charge.

A Group 4 spokesman said: "Prison custody officers do a difficult and sometimes dangerous job on behalf of the authorities and the company is giving them full support at this stressful time.

"We conduct hundreds and thousands of prison escorts during the year and thankfully incidents like these are rare."
