Hungry for a big win
Roger Narbett feeding the troops

When England take on Greece in their world cup qualifier, a pub landlord from Worcestershire could influence their performance.

As the official chef to the England team, Roger Narbett plays an important role in the pre-match preparation.

He has been fulfilling this role for the England squad for more than a decade.

His high-profile clients are a world away from his usual customers at the Bell and Cross pub in Clent.

With the hopes of the country resting on the England team the pressure is also on the man who provides the fuel for the feet of the footballers.

But the modest chef said he puts the pressure to the back of his mind.

"I try not to think about that. I just do my job as usual and as professionally as I normally do.

So what do you feed 11 hungry men before a high-profile match?

Mr Narbett keeps it simple and healthy.

"They like the Tuna Nicoise salad to start with.

"They like the pasta and chicken as the main course.

"They like the good old fresh fruit salad and yoghurt as their dessert."

Over the years he has collected many tributes and souvenirs from the players he has fed.

"This is one of my favourite souvenirs from that famous night in Munich against Germany. 'To Roger - if the food was half decent I might have scored four. Michael Owen.'

"I don't think I'll be reserving him a table here at the Bell and Cross. He'll have to book."
