Art goes underground

An art exhibition is opening at a disused tube station in London in attempt to make quality modern art accessible.

Raw Canvas is bringing together 500 pieces of work from London's up-and-coming artists.

Aldwych underground station has been converted to provide a space to display the art in a home setting..

Instead of an ordinary exhibition area, it has been transformed into a modern living space with a dining room, living room, games room and bedrooms.

A website accompanies the show and mirrors the art on display in four virtual rooms.

The rooms can be customised to look like webusers' homes so they can choose pictures to fit in with their decor.

Rich Clarke and Keith Regan, both 27 years old from London, invented Raw Canvas as they were fed up with not being able to buy "decent" modern art for their homes.

Rich Clarke said: "Like us, I'm sure many people are searching for an unusual modern image to display on their wall.

"But they don't want to buy an ubiquitous picture from a high street store nor pay prices demanded by professional artists and galleries.

"Raw Canvas allows them to own a truly unique piece of art at an affordable price, and by a soon-to-be-famous UK artist."

The prices of the art on sale range from £200 to £1,500.

The Raw Canvas exhibition is being held from Thursday to 11 November at Aldwych Tube Station in The Strand in London.
