A lifetime of abuse
These are the key dates in the tragic life of Lauren Wright, whose father and stepmother have been found guilty of her manslaughter and of wilful neglect.

  • 1 October, 2001: Craig and Tracey Wright are both found guilty of manslaughter and wilful neglect at Norwich Crown Court

  • 3 September, 2001: The Wrights' trial begins

  • 6 May, 2000: Lauren dies at home in Welney, Norfolk

  • 5 May, 2000: Norfolk social services plans a home visit to Lauren for 8 May

  • 2 May, 2000: Hertfordshire social worker calls and sends letter to Norfolk social services outlining concerns about Lauren. Pupils at Sir William Marshall School return after school holidays but Lauren is absent, reported ill at home

  • 26 April, 2000: Hertfordshire social worker contacts Norfolk social services to express concerns about Lauren

  • 25 April, 2000: Lauren is visited at home by two social workers from Hertfordshire to arrange contact between Lauren and her siblings in Herts

  • 18 April, 2000: Norfolk social services write to Tracey Wright to arrange home visit for 8 May

  • 12 April, 2000: Anonymous call made to Norfolk social services expresses concerns about Lauren's welfare. No action taken by social services

  • 4 April, 2000: Norfolk police family protection unit contact social services for a follow-up to an earlier investigation and are told that nothing conclusive was found in a medical examination

  • 21 March, 2000: Pediatrician tells social services that bruising on Lauren is compatible with her parents' explanation. Social services contacts Lauren's school and staff are asked to monitor Lauren

  • 20 March, 2000: Lauren seen by paediatrician at North Cambridgeshire Hospital

  • 15 March, 2000: Lauren seen by paediatrician at King's Lynn and West Norfolk Hospital Trust

  • 14 March, 2000: Call received by Cambridgeshire social services. Anonymous male alleges Lauren has bruises to face and neck

    Call received by Norfolk social services. Anonymous female expresses concerns about Lauren's emotional and physical wellbeing

    Norfolk social services institutes background checks on Lauren. Immediate visits are agreed

    On the same day

    - visit made to grandmother's house and stepmother interviewed

    - Lauren interviewed at school and social workers discuss matters with school staff

    - Lauren is seen by a doctor at Upwell medical practice who advises urgent specialised assessment

    - social workers seek urgent appointment with a paediatrician

    - Norfolk police family protection unit informed of case

  • 30 November 1999: Lauren is seen by consultant communtiy paediatrician

  • July 1999: Craig Wright marries Tracey. Lauren moves to live with her father and stepmother, in the house next door to her grandmother

  • January 1999: Lauren moves to Sir William Marshall School, Welney

  • 1998: Lauren moves with her father and grandmother to live in Welney

  • February, 1998: Lauren's grandmother is granted a residence order for Lauren to live with her permanently. Lauren starts school in Norfolk

  • May 1997: Lauren moves to live with her paternal grandmother and her father

  • November 1996-May 1997: Lauren spends weekends with her father Craig and grandmother, Christine Wright, who live in Three Holes, Norfolk

  • July 1993: Lauren is born in Hertfordshire
