Lying on school forms 'is theft'

Schools Adjudicator Dr Ian Craig is calling for tougher action to be taken against the thousands of parents who lie to get their children into popular schools. He has described their actions as "theft", depriving another child of their rightful place.

Dr Craig said an estimated 3,500 parents lie on school application forms each year, but he stopped short of suggesting new legislation to tackle the problem.
