Universities back fee increase

A BBC survey has found that many universities in England and Wales want a sharp increase in tuition fees.

More than half of university heads want students to pay at least 5,000 per year or for there to be no upper limit.

Malcolm Grant, Provost of University College London, said he thought fees could be raised as long as this did not deter less well off students from attending university.
