3 Para out in the field

The first offensive operation 3 Para launched, was an aerial assault on a series of buildings in Kandahar province, where one of the most notorious Taleban bomb-makers was thought to be.

More than a hundred men landed at 8am just metres away from their target in six helicopters, and pushed through opium poppy fields to search compounds.

Alastair Leithead and cameraman Andrew Herbert were with them; this is the story of the operation through the eyes of Private Ryan Kilpatrick and 'A' Company commander Major Jamie Loden.
