Schools that boost the basics
The table below shows the 102 state secondary schools in England which have most improved their GCSE-level performance on the new measure, including English and maths.

The columns show the percentage of students who attained the equivalent of at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and maths GCSEs, in the four years from 2001 to 2004, and the overall rise.

The key to inclusion is consistency: a school's results have to have improved each year between 2001 and 2004 (or at least stayed the same). Other schools might have had a greater absolute rise but with a dip along the way.
