State school participation
QUB
Queen's Belfast, does best overall
The table below shows universities in the UK ranked by the proportion of their students who come from state schools or colleges, as opposed to independent schools.

The second column of figures is the benchmark set for each institution by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce), which publishes the data.

It shows the average intake which would be expected for higher education as a whole if all institutions had students with the same academic qualifications as this university and offered the same range of subjects.

The third column is how much above or below that benchmark the institution is - Hefce says an institution with an intake lower than the benchmark is doing less well than it should.
