Baby's body found in bin bag
breaking news
Police have launched an urgent appeal for information after the body of a baby girl was found in a black plastic bag.

A man out walking his dog discovered the dead infant tied inside a bin liner and dumped in woodland at High Green, Sheffield.

The man went to a nearby house to raise the alarm at around 1600 BST on Sunday.

The body and a white carrier bag were then recovered by police.

Detectives said they did not know how long the baby had been dead.

Concern for mother

Police are asking anyone who thinks they may have seen anything suspicious in the area to contact them urgently.

South Yorkshire Police spokesman Jim Greensmith said: "We have great concern for the mother who may need medical attention.

"Anyone who knows the mother would be doing her a service by contacting the authorities."

A news conference will be held at Ecclesfield police station, South Yorkshire on Monday.
