William joins academy of science

Prince William
Past fellows have included Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin

Prince William is to follow his father by becoming a fellow of Britain's national academy of science.

The second in line to the throne will join Prince Charles as a fellow of the prestigious Royal Society at a special 350th anniversary event later.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, who is also a royal fellow, will witness William's admission at a special anniversary meeting in London.

Fellows have included Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin and Christopher Wren.

Other royal fellows of the society include the Princess Royal and the Duke of Kent.

The 350th anniversary is officially on 30 November, however the society is celebrating the anniversary throughout the year.
