The father of a woman who was murdered by serial killer Peter Tobin and buried in his back garden says he his upset that the property is still lived in.

Tobin, of Johnstone, Renfrewshire, was jailed for life for murdering 18-year-old Dinah McNicol, who went missing in 1991 while hitch-hiking home to Essex.

Ian McNicol said Tobin's former house in Margate, Kent, where his daughter's body was found, should be demolished.

He said it should be replaced with a memorial garden.

Thanet District Council said that families needed the property and that it had consulted with police who had raised no objections.

'Knocked down'

Councillor Zita Wiltshire said the authority had not had direct contact with the families of Tobin's victims.

The body of Vicky Hamilton, 15, was also found in the back garden.

Tobin was already serving life for killing her and Angelika Kluk when he was jailed for killing Ms McNicol.

In 2007, Tobin was convicted of killing Polish student Angelika Kluk, whose remains were found hidden in a church in Glasgow.

Following that trial, police dug up the back garden of his former home in Irvine Drive, Margate, where they found the bodies.

Ms McNicol vanished in August 1991 while making her way home to Tillingham from a music festival in Hampshire.

Her father said: "I would not like anyone else moving into that house.

"I think it should be completely knocked down and a garden memorial put up."

The property in Cromwell Street, Gloucester, where serial killers Fred and Rose West buried nine of their victims was demolished and a memorial put there in its place.

The current tenants of Tobin's former home did not comment.
