UK terror threat level raised to 'severe'

The UK terror threat level has been raised to "severe" by the government, but Home Secretary Alan Johnston says an attack is not imminent.

He told the BBC the decision was based on intelligence "from a broad range... both in this country and overseas", and that the public would "need to be vigilant".
