Abuse in army is 'systematic'

The Ministry of Defence has said it is investigating over 30 allegations of abuse by the UK military in Iraq.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Armed Forces minister Bill Rammell denied that all those cases were new, and warned that "allegations must not be taken as fact".

But Phil Shiner, the lawyer representing the Iraqis making the allegations, said that Mr Rammell had been "badly briefed" and that abuse is "systemic" in the army.
