Audio slideshow: Tommies' tales

Harry Patch, the last surviving veteran from the Great War living in the UK, died in July at the age of 111 - but the horrific experiences of the men who fought in the trenches is not forgotten.

Here - with help from the BBC Radio archive, and sobering images from WWI - listen to the personal testimonies of a handful of the thousands of British Tommies who marched to the Western Front.
