Ex-young offenders 'on streets'

Most young offenders have no suitable accommodation to go to when they finish their sentence and some of them end up on the streets, according to figures seen by the BBC.

Experts say the failure to house them properly means the teenagers are more likely to commit another crime, wasting millions in public money.

The news comes as Justice Secretary Jack Straw and London Mayor Boris Johnson opened a new unit in London aimed at helping released prisoners re-integrate into society and prevent them committing further crimes.
