Killed soldier was bomb disposal expert

The latest British soldier to die in Afghanistan was killed in the course of his work as a bomb disposal expert.

Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmid, 30, of the Royal Logistic Corps, had saved many lives during his mission to Helmand province and has been described by officers as a ''legend''.

He was killed one week before he was due home on leave.
