'We don't think Sats are fit for purpose'

The largest independent study on primary education in England for almost 40 years says children should start formal learning a year later, at the age of six.

The authors also want national assessment tests, known as Sats, to be abandoned.

Professor Robin Alexander from the Cambridge Primary Review says a debate is needed on the school starting age.
