'No question we need more troops'

Gordon Brown refused to send more troops to Afghanistan earlier this year, according to former head of the Army, General Sir Richard Dannatt.

Colonel Richard Kemp, former commander of British forces in Afghanistan, said questions should be asked about whether a refusal was based on political or financial reasons.

He said there was a "finite pot" of money for resources, and he was not sure it was "being prioritised properly".
