A tortoise has been rescued from a busy motorway after dodging up to six lanes of speeding traffic.

The animal was picked up by a site engineer on a slip road off the M25 in Surrey.

Tests revealed it had been micro-chipped in the US and was thousands of miles from its original home.

Philip Churm reports.
