Audio slideshow: Recession Road

BBC News website photographer Phil Coomes and journalist Paula Dear spent four days driving up the A1 from London to Edinburgh and blogged the journey .

They talked to the people they met on the way about how they were faring in the recession - as part of the BBC's coverage of the anniversary of global downturn . It was also a photographic pilgrimage - following in the footsteps of documentary photographer Paul Graham, who covered the same route in the 1980s .

Photographed, produced and recorded by Phil Coomes and Paula Dear.
