Brown in surprise Afghan trip

Gordon Brown has paid an un-announced visit to southern Afghanistan and met British soldiers at Camp Bastion in Helmand Province.

Mr Brown hinted that more British soldiers might be sent to Afghanistan to speed-up the training of Afghan forces. He also promised greater help to counter the threat of improvised bombs, and better protection on vehicles.
