Health secretary Andy Burnham has called a Tory MEP's attack on the NHS, "David Cameron's worst nightmare".

Mr Burnham said the Conservative leader looked "rattled" after being forced to distance himself from Daniel Hannan's criticism of Britain's health service on American television.

The minister added: "Mr Hannan is not the only one. There are some senior Conservatives who in recent history have spoken up in very similar terms."
