How to play bicycle polo

James Hoggarth, a bicycle polo referee, explains the rules of the game ahead of the first European Hardcourt Bicycle Polo Championships.

Traditional bicycle polo was invented in Ireland in 1891 - but the alternative form of the game, Hardcourt Bike Polo, has grown in popularity in recent years.

It is now played all over the world, with teams of between three and five players who compete on tennis courts or other hard surfaces.
