Afghanistan death toll surpasses Iraq

Five more British soldiers have died in Afghanistan, bringing to eight the total killed over 24 hours, the Ministry of Defence has said.

The deaths mark a grim milestone - with the total number of troops killed now exceeding those in the Iraq conflict - at a 184.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown signalled that more deaths were likely as he warned that British forces are facing a "very hard summer".

There has been renewed criticism though that the troops are dangerously under equipped.

Caroline Wyatt reports.
