Papers ponder the future of men

Papers

News that British scientists have grown human sperm in the laboratory for the first time makes headlines in a number of the UK newspapers.

But the question for them, and others, is as the Mirror puts it delicately - is this the end of men?

The Sun thinks so. It reports the story under the headline: "Chaps doomed as lab grows sperm".

For the Independent, the scientific advance raises ethical questions over the future role of men.

Passport shock

TheDaily Express leads on the rising cost of a passport. It says increases in charges will push the price of a standard adult passport to £77.50.

The paper goes on to point out that the cost is almost three times what it was eight years ago.

The memorial to the victims of the London bombings is widely acclaimed.

The Independent says it is exceptionally well-judged. The Times also offers praise , describing it as monumental yet slender.

The Daily Mail and the Daily Express have pictures of guests at a Buckingham Palace garden party rushing for cover during a torrential downpour.

One picture shows a guest being carried across a flooded path.

There was no magic wand to wave the rain away as the stars of the latest Harry Potter film arrived for the premiere in London.

Drenched

There are many pictures of a drenched Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson stepping on to the red carpet.

Michael Jackson's memorial service in Los Angeles was, as the Guardian puts it, the King of Pop's last show.

Most front pages have pictures from the memorial service and it is the lead for the Mirror and the Sun.

A service like no other , the Mirror says. More pop festival than memorial, according to the Sun.

His famous story got a showbusiness ending , the Independent reports. For the Daily Mail, it was a singing, dancing, schmaltzy, spectacle.
