An elderly man has died and at least 100 people have been taken ill on board a cruise liner berthed in Scotland.

The Marco Polo, which is touring the UK and Ireland with 769 passengers and 340 crew, is thought to have been hit by the vomiting bug, norovirus.

Dr Ken Oates from NHS Highland said it was too early to say whether the bug had contributed to the death of the man, who had ''considerable'' underlying health problems.
