Convicted killers still at large

Nearly 1,000 offenders in England and Wales who should have been sent back to prison are still at large, according to figures published by Justice Secretary Jack Straw.

They include 20 convicted murderers and 29 sex offenders.

The statistics relate to those offenders released into the community who breached the terms of their licence.
