'No excuses' over Baby P, says council

Haringey council leader Claire Kober has apologised for the failures which led up to the death of Baby Peter, who died after months of abuse.

His mother has been jailed indefinitely for causing or allowing the toddler's death in August 2007.

Her 32-year-old boyfriend was jailed for 12 years for causing the death, and for life for raping a two-year-old girl.

A report found that agencies that were supposed to protect Baby Peter lacked urgency and thoroughness.

Claire Kober said there were ''no excuses'' for the failings, but stressed that improvements were being made.
