Top jobs going for London 'Metro'
Ken Livingstone takes a trip on the tube
Ken Livingstone wants a more effective Underground
London Mayor Ken Livingstone is looking to France for ways to improve the city's Underground.

The jobs of top London Underground staff will also be advertised next week as part of his bid to improve transport in the capital.

The French Metro could lead the way for London's Underground

Mr Livingstone has said he wants a more effective Underground system - similar to the Paris Metro.

"Next week in the newspapers I am advertising the jobs of the senior managers of London Underground, the buses and the transport system." he told BBC Radio 4's Any Questions programme recorded in France on Friday.

"Only those who are competent will be reappointed to their jobs, we are going to bring a lot of new blood in."

Congestion cash

He said there was a contrast in the efficiency of the Paris Metro and the "abysmal service" offered to commuters in London.

"It is completely unacceptable," he said.

Mr Livingstone has promised to advertise the jobs of London Underground management since his election campaign.

But the speed of his announcement, just weeks after his election, shows his determination to make transport improvements the top priority of his administration.

He also told the programme he was confident he would get the cash needed to introduce congestion charging in London.

"I am virtually certain I will be given money to carry that programme out because this is a policy Labour fought for," he said.
