Anniversary of Rushdie fatwa

It is 20 years since Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa against author Salman Rushdie, saying his book The Satanic Verses was blasphemous.

The book, which was banned in several countries, caused widespread protests, and Rushdie was forced to live in hiding for several years.
