Arctic blast sweeps the country

The UK is experiencing an Arctic blast with snow showers sweeping parts of the country in freezing temperatures.

The snow has led to hazardous driving conditions on some roads and motorists have contacted the BBC about problems on a number of routes.

As the blanket of snow swept across northern England and Scotland, children used the opportunity to play on toboggans and throw snowballs at each other.
