Four men charged with terror offences after raids in Birmingham have been remanded in custody after appearing at City of Westminster Magistrates Court.

They are Shahid Ali, 34, of Hodge Hill, Shabir Mohammed, 30, of Sparkbrook, Mohammed Nadim, 29, of Bordesley Green, and Abdul Raheem, 31, of Ward End.

Mr Raheem has been ordered to return to the same court on 21 November.

Mr Ali, Mr Nadim and Mr Mohammed are due at London's Old Bailey for a preliminary hearing on 7 November.

These three men were charged with engaging in conduct with the intention of assisting in the commission of acts of terrorism.

The court heard the charge related to the supply of equipment overseas for use in fighting coalition forces.

Raheem was charged with failing to disclose information that could have helped to prevent acts of terrorism, namely the supply of equipment to assist terrorists fighting abroad.

The men were arrested during dawn raids in the Sparkhill, Ward End, Hodge Hill, Bordesley Green and Aston areas of Birmingham on 21 October.

Forensic teams removed a number of items from six homes and two business premises, one in Birmingham and the other in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

West Midlands Police said a fifth man had been released without charge.
