Four men are due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates Court charged with terrorism offences, following a series of raids in Birmingham.

The unnamed men, who are all from the area, are suspected of helping to commission acts of terrorism.

They include a 29-year-old from Bordesley Green, a 30-year-old from Sparkbrook, a 34-year-old from Ward End and a 31-year-old from Hodge Hill.

The latter is also charged with failing to disclose relevant information.

West Midlands Police said a fifth man had been released without charge.

The men were arrested during dawn raids in the Sparkhill, Ward End, Hodge Hill, Bordesley Green and Aston areas of Birmingham on 21 October.

Forensic teams removed a number of items from six homes and two business premises, one in Birmingham and the other in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

Police said after the arrests that they were "not related to any immediate plot or threat to public safety" and that no-one else was being sought in connection with the investigation.
