Top Gear's Richard Hammond has said speed cameras are ''a distraction'' from the real issue of ''inappropriate use of speed.''

The presenter, who narrowly escaped death in a high-speed crash, was speaking after Swindon council axed funding for the fixed roadside cameras.

This video was first broadcast in October 2008.
