Guards stabbed as prisoner escapes

A Group 4 van was involved in the escape
Police in Bedfordshire are hunting a violent prisoner who escaped from a van after stabbing two security guards in the face.

Dean Stone, 30, lashed out with a pen or small knife after setting fire to a security van taking him to jail.

The Group 4 vehicle was forced to stop while Stone was being transported from St Albans Crown Court to Woodhill Prison, Buckinghamshire, where he was on remand after a court appearance for aggravated burglary.

Police have warned people not to approach Stone
A major police hunt was launched involving officers on the ground and the force helicopter after the escape on Monday.

Police say Stone, described as dangerous, may be heading for London.

It was reported that Stone dumped his prison-issue blue and white shirt after burgling a house in the Bedfordshire village of Ridgmont, near the M1 at Woburn, close to the scene of the escape.

He stole a Honda 750cc motorbike - registration M21 FDD - and black helmet, black leather jacket, black Levi's jeans and motorcycle boots.

A police spokeswoman said: "Do not approach him, he is extremely dangerous. Just dial 999 immediately if you see him."
