The parents of a baby boy who was born on 8 August, 2008 weighing 8lb 8oz say they hope it will mean he will be lucky for life.

Corey Eells was due to arrive on 12 August, but was born four days early.

His mum Sarah Eells, 26, said he was born just after 7pm and joked she should really have hung on until 8pm.

Ms Eels, from Plymouth, said: "It was overwhelming when I had him. My friends thought it was a joke when I told them about all the eights."

Corey's dad Ian Munday, 31, said it meant it would be easy to remember family celebrations.

He said: "I was so concerned for Sarah it didn't register until someone mentioned the date.

"At least I will remember his birthday."

The couple met at Specsavers where they work, two years ago.

The date of 8 August 2008 was chosen as the date for the start of the Beijing Olympics as many Chinese people believe that it is particularly lucky.
