When Amanda isn't presenting Your News she works as a sports presenter on the BBC News Channel and BBC World News.

She loves all types of sport but has a soft spot for Manchester United or in her words, "a near obsession."

The BBC's Amanda Davies

What's your worst on-air moment?
It's also my best - my first ever presenting shift. I'm sure I'll never feel that nervous again.

Those titles running, that countdown in my ear, lights and cameras - knowing that I had to open my mouth and get the words out in a sensible order. And at the same time smile and look like I'd been doing it for ever.

It's a feeling I can't really explain but I got through it (thank goodness the desk hid all my shaking) and was even allowed back on.

What stories interest you the most?
I'd say I'm into anything involving people. It's a great privilege to go out and about, meet characters from all walks of life and be given the opportunity to tell their stories.

I'm pretty nosey really, and just love asking questions.

What advice would you have for people wanting to get into journalism?
Be prepared to do your time. Making tea, photocopying scripts and being a runner is generally a good way in.

You don't always get treated that well but use it to find out as much as you can about all the different jobs in a newsroom.

Keep your ultimate goal in mind, learn about the industry, make contacts and pick people's brains but don't forget to smile!

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
"Expect nothing from anyone, and you'll never be let down." It's cynical, I know - but in this business, it's very sensible. Oh, and "be nice to people on the way up because you never know when you'll meet them on the way down."

What is your greatest ambition?
Now that I've seen Manchester United win the Champion's League, it's to go and see the pandas at the Wolong reserve in China. I think it would be truly amazing.
I used to be nicknamed Amanda Panda which is why...

What 3 words best describe you?
Loves red wine. Or loves the gym. It depends on which day you get me on.
