FO warns against Pakistan visits
Karachi violence
Cars were burned on the streets in Karachi in overnight violence
Britons have been warned against travelling to Pakistan in the wake of Benazir Bhutto's assassination.

The Foreign Office strengthened its travel advice to counsel against all but essential travel to the country after violent street clashes broke out.

The protests over the killing of the former prime minister have already claimed several lives.

Those already in Pakistan are being told to stay indoors as more violence is expected following her funeral.

"If you are intending to travel to Pakistan, you should follow the developing situation in the news media and consult FCO travel advice regularly," the Foreign Office website states.

"Travellers in Pakistan should remain in their lodgings and not go out until the situation becomes clearer."

Full details can be found on the website at www.fco.gov.uk or by telephone on 0845 850 2829.
