Barry George has pleaded not guilty to the murder of BBC TV presenter Jill Dando in 1999.

Mr George, 47, was sentenced to life for the shooting of Miss Dando, 37, outside her west London home, but he has always denied his involvement.

The Court of Appeal quashed his 2001 conviction and ordered a retrial.

Mr George, of Fulham, west London, will face a new trial on 2 June next year. He was remanded in custody after an application for bail was refused.

Mr George was sentenced in July 2001 to life imprisonment after an Old Bailey jury found him guilty by a majority of 10 to one.

The Court of Appeal ruled last month that the jury's guilty verdict six years ago was unsafe because of new scientific doubts over gunshot discharge residue evidence.
