Baroness Gale was treasurer for Harriet Harman's bid for deputy

Baroness Gale of Blaenrhondda, treasurer to Harriet Harman's deputy leadership campaign, released this statement in response to the row over donations to the Labour Party.
Having checked our records, we are detailing the facts of how we received a donation from Janet Kidd for the Harriet Harman for deputy campaign to Lord Whitty's enquiry.
We had several rules in the campaign team:
One: We would always abide by the letter and the spirit of the law.
Two: We would check that each donation came from someone on the electoral register and was therefore a permissible donation.
Three: We would only accept donations from people known personally to me or to members of my campaign team or from known donors to the Labour Party.
As part of our fundraising effort, the campaign team approached Chris Leslie at the end of June and asked if he could put us in contact with anyone who might be approached to donate to our campaign.
Contact was made with Janet Kidd, a donor to the Labour Party of long standing, who then sent us a donation for £5,000.
We had no reason to believe that this donation was coming from anyone other than Janet Kidd.
Harriet Harman first heard about this on Friday and the campaign has arranged to return the donation to Janet Kidd.
On Monday the Harriet Harman for deputy campaign agent, Mike Foster, wrote to clarify the situation to the Electoral Commission.
The Harriet Harman for deputy campaign was not put in touch with Janet Kidd by Jack Dromey.
