Diamonds are a Dome's best friend
Mr Gerbeau shows off the glittering prizes
Mr Gerbeau shows off the glittering prizes
Two schoolgirls have each won 1,500 diamond necklace in a competition aimed at boosting the appeal of the Millennium Dome.

So far, only two of the five winners know of their new accessory - the hunt is on for the remaining three, whose necklaces remain under lock and key at the Dome in Greenwich, London.

The Dome's new chief executive, Pierre-Yves Gerbeau, picked out the winners at the close of business on Sunday.

It was a nice surprise coming home from school

The De Beers necklaces feature a round diamond set in an 18-carat gold pendant.

Anne Fahy, eight, of Horley, Surrey, has asked her father to return to Greenwich to pick up her booty in time for her birthday party.

Tim Fahy said his daughter had enjoyed her time at the Dome even before news of her win came through.

"We are going to have a jewel party at the weekend and she is making me do a special diversion to go and get it tomorrow.

"She has got a watch but this is more than anyone she knows has got."

Dome organisers are keen to boost attendance
Sarah Lowe, 18, of Spondon, Derby, said she never thought she would win.

"My mum was just as surprised as I was. Someone from the Dome rang while I was still at school and I was amazed.

"It was a nice surprise coming home from school."

The teenager had visited the Dome as part of an organised trip.

Mr Gerbeau took over in February when former chief executive Jennie Page resigned amid criticisms of poor attendance figures and long queues for the Body Zone.
