Princes swap fatigues for bowlers

The prince were following a pre-WWI tradition

Princes William and Harry have marched together at an army parade, dressed in City suits rather than combat fatigues.

The pair joined hundreds of former and serving soldiers in London's Hyde Park for the annual Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association Parade.

They were representing their unit - the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals, which sponsored this year's event.

The tradition of wearing black bowler hats and City-style suits dates back to World War I.

The outfit, which sees carrying umbrellas, reflects the "proper order of dress" before WWI.

As well as the City attire, William, 24, and Harry, 22, also wore the navy blue and claret regimental tie of the Household Division.

Their aunt, the Princess Royal, who is colonel of the Blues and Royals, took the salute during the parade.

It is the first time Prince William has taken part in the parade, now in its 83rd year.

Harry, soon due to serve with his regiment in Iraq, attended last year.
