All five climbers missing overnight in blizzard conditions in the Cairngorms have been found safe and well.

The search, involving the Cairngorm mountain rescue team and officers from nearby RAF bases had been hampered by winds of up to 80mph and bad visibility.

Two climbers, who failed to return from an expedition on Coire an Lochan, were spotted when they walked off the mountain and bumped into the rescue team.

The other three, who were climbing separately on Coire an Sneachda, were found by rescuers.

An RAF helicopter had to help a two-man snowplough team which got into difficulty near Bonar Ridge in Inverness.

They are feared stranded in snowdrifts.
