Timeline: 21 July bomb plot
January, 2003
Training for jihad Mukhtar Ibrahim leader of the plot travels to Sudan to take part in socalled jihadi training. He boasted to others in London that he had learned to fire rocket propelled grenades. While nobody has been able to verify his claims his medical records show he prepared for the trip by seeking the appropriate advice and medication against local diseases. During the trial Ibrahim denies having taken part in training.

Plotters come together The precise details and dates are unclear but by the Spring of 2004 Muktar Ibrahim Hussein Osman Yassin Omar Ramzi Mohammed and Adel Yayha all know each other partly from attending the same mosques or Islamist activism groups in London. Manfo Asiedu the final defendant only becomes part of the group later. Ibrahim and Omar have known each other since 2000.
30 April, 2004
Camping trip Ibrahim Osman Omar Mohammed and Yayha go away to the Lake District. They join other men in the camping trip. Police receive a tipoff and a surveillance officer photographs the men performing what look likes organised physical training combined with group prayers. Prosecutors say the camp is a key moment in the bonding of the plotters

Proposal for demonstration Ibrahim is said to first come up with the idea of a demonstration against the Iraq war while talking to Yassin Omar. The two men are said to debate doing something "that will stand out". Ibrahim claims in court that he later downloads plans from the internet for a hoax bomb although these are never found by the police.

Ibrahim charged Muktar Ibrahim is charged under the Public Order Act for using threatening and abusive behaviour after a runin with police as he tries to distribute Islamic literature on Oxford Street in London. He never attends court.
December, 2004
Ibrahim heads for Pakistan Ibrahim is questioned at Heathrow as he and two other men leave for Pakistan with more than £2000 in cash a brand new video camera and video phone. He was also taking a sleeping bag and cold weather clothes. One of the other men has a military first aid kid and notes on how to deal with ballistic injuries. The trio say they are going for a wedding although Ibrahim does not know the bride's name. Prosecution tell the trial this trip was for jihadi training.
February, 2005
Row at mosque Yassin Omar gets into an argument with the Imam of Finchley Mosque north London after the cleric tells the congregation that suicide bombing is against Islam. Omar accuses him of deceiving worshippers. Omar later apologises to the cleric.

Bomb purchasing begins The plot begins to take shape as plotters buy high strength hair bleach at cosmetics shops. Asiedu buys the first bottle. Yayha makes inquiries at shops and helps set up future purchases. The hydrogen peroxide is taken to a flat in Curtis House north London Yassin Omar's home. This becomes the bomb factory.

Asiedu buys up stock Christopher Diaper director of Hairways cosmetics in Tottenham north London sees Manfo Asiedu buy up the shop's entire stock of the highstrength peroxide.

Final purchase of hair bleach Asiedu and Ibrahim make the final purchases of hydrogen peroxide buying more than 200 litres from Pak Cosmetics in north London's Finsbury Park. In all the conspirators have spent £550 on 443 litres of hair bleach in 283 bottles.

Ramzi Mohammed and Hussein Osman buy flour. The bags of cheap chapatti flour bought on 18 July are the last key ingredient for the bomb. With the electrical elements bought from High Street chain Maplin and the hydrogen peroxide from cosmetics shows all that remains is to construct the devices in large plastic tubs that can fit inside rucksacks.

Yassin Omars burka escape plan Yassin Omar heads for Birmingham dressed in a fulllength Islamic burka. His tall frame makes him stand out on CCTV footage recovered from a bus station.

Yassin Omar arrested Antiterrorism officers raid a home in Hay Mills Birmingham after piecing together Omar's movements. They find him standing in a bath wearing a rucksack. The arresting officer makes a split second decision not to fire despite fearing the rucksack is a bomb. He and other officers uses punches and a taser electric shock gun to subdue the suspect.

Hussein Osman arrested in Rome British and Italian security services successfully work out that Hussein Osman is in Rome partly by analysing the movement of his mobile phone. Police in Rome seize Osman in his brother's flat. He offers no resistance when special armed police officers break down the door of the apartment.
22 September, 2005
Osman extradited After losing his battle against extradition Osman is put on a private plane back to the UK accompanied by specialist officers from Scotland Yard. On his arrival Scotland Yard antiterrorism officers board the plane and immediately arrest him to the highsecurity Paddington Green police station. There he is formally charged with conspiracy to murder.

Adel Yahya arrested Adel Yayha returns to the UK from Ethiopia. Two days later he is charged with conspiracy to murder and joins the other five men awaiting trial.
