The Brit Awards have been marred by protests outside the venue against low wages paid by a record company.

As stars arrived for the ceremony, a small scuffle broke out between security guards and protestors who were demonstrating against the record company PolyGram.

About 200 people waved banners and shouted slogans, claiming that the company is paying CD packers as little as £3 an hour.

The Big Breakfast presenter Denise van Outen was one of the stars the protesters jostled outside the London Arena. The American star Jon Bon Jovi was also pushed.

Police and security officials held the demonstrators back to the other side of the road.

Melinda Messenger, Zoe Ball, Julia Carling and the Culture Secretary, Chris Smith, were among those turning up for the ceremony.
