'Mile high' strangers frosty in court
Two strangers alleged to have committed a drunken sex act on a plane completely ignored one another when they appeared in court on Monday. Amanda Holt, 37, and David Machin, 40, charged with outraging public decency and being drunk on board a transatlantic flight, appeared in court together for the first time before Manchester magistrates.
The pair are alleged to have got drunk and committed a sex act in front of passengers and crew in the plane's business class section. But Mrs Holt, of Moorside Crescent, in Bacup, Lancashire, and Mr Machin of Woodland Road in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, did not look at each other when they stood together in the dock on Monday.
Mr Machin, a former company manager, arrived alone. They made no pleas and spoke only to confirm their names and addresses. The case was adjourned until 24 January for committal to Crown Court. One further charge, under the new air rage laws, of behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, was withdrawn. Mrs Holt was given conditional bail on condition her passport remains with police and Mr Machin was given unconditional bail. |
