Children's poll critical of Blair

The poll comes a week after Mr Blair was booed by children during a visit

Tony Blair is doing a bad job as prime minister and was wrong to take Britain to war in Iraq, according to a poll of schoolchildren.

Some 80% thought the UK should not have gone to war with Iraq, while 20% backed military action, the poll for weekly children's newspaper First News found.

Also, 60% said Mr Blair was not doing a good job running the country.

The survey questioned 1,215 children aged between eight and 14 in the UK during July.

More than half the children questioned said they had no idea what the Royal Family did, while more than 90% of eight to 14-year-olds said they thought they were getting a good education.

Piers Morgan, executive editor of First News, said: "The survey is more bad news for Tony Blair, who they don't rate very highly, but he will be cheered a bit by their belief that they're getting a good education.

"I think the Royal Family might need to explain precisely what they do too as that seems to be lost on our kids."
