Queen fascinated by acupuncture
The Queen was able to watch acupuncture in action as she visited the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital and saw an elderly woman being treated for arthritis. The royal visitor was attending the hospital's 150th anniversary celebrations. She saw 86-year-old Jane Gilchrist having needles pushed into her shoulders, after Dr Adam Ward heard the Chinese treatment was of interest to her. "Does it work?" the Queen asked Ms Gilchrist. "Yes, it's miraculous. The pain will be gone tomorrow," she replied. "The Chinese knew something," said the Queen. Like the Queen Mother and Prince of Wales, the Queen, who has been patron of the hospital for 47 years, is interested in homoeopathy as complementary or alternative treatment to conventional medicine. But she is not thought to have tried it herself. |
